SPARK ⭕ I bet we can make you smile this week
August 19, 2024
She was in tears... she had seen your product before and wanted to buy because it touched her heart, and the fact that I would feel the same became our glue. Now, as of September, we are engaged to be married. And that love of giving to others brought us together and continues on as we continue to "give".... and because it has been such as large part of our relationship and will continue into our future, I'm hoping that we can work this belief into our wedding favors.
What better way to thank our guests for coming to support our love than to give them the gift of giving... your Seeds of Happiness....that they are able to witness our love and use that to initiate the ability to give to others. I have visited your website for your product, as we would like to educate and inspire our guests about planting a "seed of happiness" for others.... for our [wedding] guests to witness the love that we have for each other, they are able to leave with the ability to "gift" that love to others.
They might need to provide encouragement and love to others, as they are going through their tribulations and trials in their present or future lives.
What better gift can we provide to our guests than the gift of giving? The gift of love and empathy.
Thank you for your time, and no matter what, please know that we admire your product and it's message and use it as a foundation for our relationship and our future in every way."
SPARK ⭕ Smiles navigating a path of grief MADD
August 16, 2024
Our candlelight vigil for work is this Saturday. I typically give the “opening remarks.” Typically I say something about hope, etc. However, this year I’m giving the closing remarks. Our “token of honor” or gift to the families that attend are Seeds of Happiness. I just wanted you to see my closing remarks that I am going to read at our vigil. As I know you know, I will never forget Dawson and always think of you!!
“I’m sure some of you are wondering about the two, bright red, small, balls you have received from us today. Some of you might know of them, some might not. The bright red balls are actually lumps of clay known as “Seeds of Happiness.” Created by a local sculptor in St. Louis, their main purpose is to help put a smile on the face of anyone who needs it.
In June of this year KSDK ran a local “Feel Good” story. While watching it, I discovered it was about a friend of mine. In 2007 Paula and John Ivanowski, lost their young son, Dawson, to a battle with cancer. These “Seeds of Happiness” were created by a local sculptor to help Paula and John put the smile back on their face after Dawson’s death. While Paula and John’s son battled with cancer, their friend, the sculptor, didn’t know what to say to them during this difficult time so he did what he knows best…he sculpted clay. It was that small act of kindness that started “Seeds of Happiness.” He told them: "I know there is nothing I can say or do to make you feel better so I thought I would bring you some smiles to help you get your smile back.”
While the manner Paula and John lost their son is different than the reason we all gather today, the pain and grief we all share is similar… we grieve for a life that is forever changed or a life that is forever lost. We wake up every morning wondering how we will continue through this day and the next. We work hard on creating our new sense of normal in our lives, always wanting or yearning for our old normal back, even if it’s just for brief minutes.
As you can see we gave you two “Seeds of Happiness.” One of the seeds is a gift we are giving to you, to give you a smile when you may need it. The other seed we are giving to you is for you to give it to someone that you know who could use a smile.
We many never know the impact that our tiny seed has on someone’s life, but together we can help others along their path of grief. Please go and spread “Seeds of Happiness” in the world.
After we hear one final song from the Worship Team everyone is invited next door to the church cafe for a small reception. From myself as well as all of our very dedicated volunteers and staff at the Gateway office, thank you for joining us today as we honor victims and survivors.”
SPARK ⭕ Grandma treasures her red clay seed
August 15, 2024
"Hello!
A few years back we had the fortune of finding a seed at Apple Annie’s in Arizona and so my mom picked up one for my grandma and one for me. Fast forward a few years later and my grandma STILL to this day carries her seed in her pocket with her cherry chapstick. The few times she thought she lost it we had to continuously search and search until found, sometimes in the crack of the seat of the truck.
We tried looking for seeds online for backups, but unfortunately couldn’t find anything online awhile back. Even though we went every year to pick apples and veggies, Apple Annie’s no longer had them at the Apple orchard.
In July 2020 during the middle of the darn pandemic my grandma was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer. So we’ve been trying to spend as much time with her as possible and doing things that she can do before it gets too hard.
In the later part of 2020 we stop at Apple Annie’s for our yearly apples, veggies and pumpkins and for the first year ever to get some pie at the country store by the highway on the way out. I couldn’t believe it but they had a stand full of seeds and so I bought about $40 worth and brought them over to my grandma when eating pie. She was so happy that she didn’t even know what to say, it honestly meant the absolute world because it could keep her mind off the pain and sadness for a minute.
So then she would carry them around with her to each appointment she went to and would give them out to her favorites. Then she started chemo just for palliative care since her cancer is terminal and gave one out to this lady she really enjoyed spending the day with and then some throughout the family to help them stay happy in this time of sadness. We also help Arizona Oncology with chemo hats that my mom and I sew together to make sure anyone that needs one can get one for free.
I just want to let you know that my grandma will always be remembered with a seed in her pocket and being so joyed to pass them out to the rest of the world.
Unfortunately her time is limited here and so I plan on getting some for seeds for her to continue giving doctors and friends she meets at Arizona Oncology."
Thank you for listening,
Alexandria
SPARK ⭕ Interviews and Smiles go a long way
August 14, 2024
"I bought my first set of 10 seeds, the first seed I gave away was to Linda. She works at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital and she interviewed me for a position as a Health Unit Coordinator. My first interview in over 10 years. I packed a bright yellow seed in my purse and decided I would give it to her when we finished the interview and said goodbye. You should have seen her face when I plopped that little glob of bright yellow clay in her hand!! She was so surprised and happy at the same time. When I contacted her a few days later to thank her for interviewing me she told me that "i made her day." It made a big impression on her. No one had done anything like that before.
It looks like I will be receiving a phone call from their HR department by the end of the week to offer me the position!! I will work in the waiting room at Presbyterian Hospital and be the go between the doctors/nurses and the families. This is a level 1 hospital so they receive trauma cases all day long. I will be with those families as their loved one is in surgery. This is also the waiting room for people who have scheduled surgeries, transplants and major heart surgery.
Can you imagine how many seeds I will need???? Do you know what an impact your little seeds are going to have????
Linda loved the seed so much I decided to order her a whole bag of her own. Seeds she can now give to people she meets through out her day. I'm so excited!!
Thank You!"

SPARK ⭕ Seeds are pocket sized for a very important reason
August 13, 2024
"I would like to tell you my story. My daughter at 14 was being bullied beyond what any kid should be by a group of kids. She was having such a hard time and never told anyone what was going on she thought her only way was to end her life this week. At midnight her brother (12 years old) found her after she took too much medication. I rushed her to the hospital and she is now getting the help she needs. We were one of the lucky ones that made it in time. On the way to the hospital today my son and i stop at the hoot in mansfield at to try to find something different and inspiring for her. My son saw your seeds of happiness. I bought them so I can leave little smiles around the house and so she can carry one with her. To remind her that see is the reason I smile everyday... I told her what I got and she loved them... She now looking forward to coming home and finding were i put the seeds.
I would like to say thank you for coming up with something simple but very meaningful I believe this may help her get through this hard time."
Sincerely,
Cheryl
SPARK ⭕ The smile that brought balance to a bad day
August 12, 2024
"We took a family trip to Destin, Florida this June and out of the gate things were not going well for our van. We lost out first hubcap in East St. Louis, the second one left us in Paducah. Finally we arrived in Destin and have a wonderful time with our family. Jump to the end of the trip. My sister, Dawn, gave us all a SOH (one of the many I seem to now have). On the drive home we discovered that there was a problem with the car- the car should not slow down when you roll up the window up...our alternator went out!! In the middle of nowhere, Athens, Alabama. So there we were, on the side of the road, when my husband puts his hand in his pocket and feels something strange...it was his new SOH. He pulled it out and all we could do was laugh.
Through the darkest of times that little ball of clay put a smile on our faces, and a laugh in our hearts. Thanks for providing a little balance to a crappy day!"

SPARK ⭕ We hear stories like this ALL the time
August 08, 2024
"I discovered Seeds of Happiness just before I got the diagnosis no woman wants to hear. I have been giving these little guys new homes with friends, family, my surgeon and her staff, the plastic surgeon and his staff, the oncologist and his staff, and my chemo team. Thank you for your little friends making this "trip" easier."

SPARK ⭕ Magic happens when a stranger shares a smile
August 07, 2024
"For the past two years I've battled with anxiety attacks and finally got them under control. Then the past few weeks they have come back with a vengeance. While working at a small coffee shop, a sweet old man gave me a seed of happiness and said "this is just in case that smile ever goes away." It was just what I needed."

SPARK ⭕ Even in the darkest days, Seeds bring smiles
August 05, 2024
"I received a seed of happiness tonight from a dear friend. My daughter lost her finance on January 10th. Massive heart attack at 30 years of age. He died early afternoon. That night he was going to give her the engagement ring that he had designed for her. Life is so unexpected and can be so tragic and sad. This seed of happiness did bring a smile after some very dark days."

SPARK ⭕ When a heart hurts, a seed is a reminder of love
August 02, 2024
"I lost my youngest son Bryan to suicide 2 1/2 years ago. Someone not sure who sent me a seeds of happiness. I must admit it didn't make me smile at the time but it did let me know someone was thinking of me in my grief journey. It made my heart swell a little. I know that that person also didn't have the words but the simple act of kindness let me know someone was thinking of me. Receiving that little ball of clay really met a lot. When I look at it today I know someone was thinking and cared enough to let me know they were thinking of me and I was not alone."

SPARK ⭕ Seeds are a reminder to smile through life’s trials
August 01, 2024
"I received a seed of happiness from my friend Sean-Michael who I met through a support group, We both share a rare blood disease that literally makes us allergic to life and have organ problems. I have been struggling to cope with getting feeding tube and consuming hypoallergenic formula, while Sean has been struggling with making it a day without having anaphylaxis. So while Sean was in town to see a specialist, we decided to go shopping like normal people which can be hard to do when you have non-stop allergic reactions). When we left the store, Sean surprised me with a little pink and blue Seed of Happiness. It now sits by my bed next to my EpiPens and reminds me to smile through the hard times."
