I was working at Children's Hospital of Michigan in Troy when a knock at my door lead me to receive a Seed of Happiness. This lovely woman was giving them to employees at the hospital in memory of the children and teachers lost at Sandy Hook elementary school.

You see, my college softball coach gave me a little orange seed of happiness in the spring to make me feel better after my friend passed away. Ever since then, I carry it around and it seriously just makes me smile.

Helped my son's anxiety

I bought everyone their favorite color. Well, my son kept his seed in his pocket each day. This seed was something tangible he could touch and hang on to during his toughest days. Whenever, wherever he was, he could touch that seed and it brought him comfort and a smile. He carried that seed everywhere! Through lots of prayers and counseling he learned how to cope with his anxiety.

It made me smile like I hadn't smiled in a very long time

I happened upon these guys when my family was going through a really horrific time. I had lost my full term grandson and my daughter was in her darkest days. I came across your seeds of happiness and it made me smile like I hadn't smiled in a very long time.

Keep that smile on her face

She has been going through painful treatments 3-4 days a week. She is a corporate lawyer and still works and travels more hours than anybody would be able to. She is a very strong person but finally broke, I decided to send her a smile. I sent it in a box with my mother in law when she went to visit her.

Gift of happiness and encouragement

I gave (will be giving) her “Seed of Happiness” in two weeks because we invited her to our “Cookie Baking Day”, something her mom loved to do and we also invited her to the family Christmas Eve as well. I am sure she will cry when she receives this “gift of happiness and encouragement”, but I feel good about giving it to her because of all she has endured these past 11 months.

Making a lot of sad faces SMILE

I was the one elected to pass out the Seeds of Happiness after the funeral of Rich's Dad. I decided it best to pass them out after the funeral at the gathering at the church. Everyone loved them. It made smiles everywhere there had been tears.

The tiny things we do that one remembers

I gave my second Seed to my Daughter-in-Law on October 17th. While on vacation to Denver, Colorado visiting my son and his wife, we got the word that her grandfather had fallen and struck the back right side of his head on the driveway. She and I drove left at 6am and got to Topeka, Kansas when she got the word he had passed away.

I gave my smile away today and hugged the patient, then she cried and then I cried!

Patient-Carol is being seen now as a patient. Her husband George was seen about 3 months ago as a patient. Both have been seen over the years many times!! George ALWAYS came in the front door with a smile. He called us the beautiful ladies at Rehab and even brought us red roses on a visit.

One year ago, September 15th, Erin, her husband, and their 4 year old son flew to Disney World for a week of magic. The morning of September 16th her husband and son woke up ready for a full day of fun but Erin did not wake up that day.

The Seed helped me say what words could not express

I gave my first Seed to my Daughter-In-Law yesterday, as her brother committed suicide on Monday, 9/14/2015. What can you say at such a time? The seed helped me say to her, “I can not imagine the pain you are feeling, I am here for you, and, I hope this seed will help you remember happier times, start the healing, and lead you back to happiness”.

Then it dawned on me that I have the smile seeds at home!

I talked to him at length and told him he just needs to get this surgery behind him and he will have his smile back soon. Then it dawned on me that I have the smile seeds at home! He was crying and gave me a hug and we stood there hugging and crying together…
